Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has strongly criticised the Karnataka government's decision to reserve four percent of government contracts for Muslim contractors, calling it the "height of appeasement" and a violation of the Indian Constitution.
In a statement issued on Saturday night, Sai urged Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi to direct Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to withdraw what he described as an "unconstitutional" decision.
He accused the Congress of undermining the fundamental principles of the Constitution whenever it comes to power.
The Karnataka government, led by Siddaramaiah, has approved amendments to the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act to implement the four percent reservation for Muslim contractors in government tenders.
Sai condemned the move, claiming it was a deliberate attempt by the Congress to create societal divisions. He asserted that courts have previously ruled against religion-based reservations, and this decision would not withstand judicial scrutiny.

He accused the Congress of engaging in vote bank politics at the expense of marginalised communities, including tribals and Dalits, and warned that such injustice would not be tolerated.
The BJP leader also criticised Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that despite belonging to a deprived section of society, Kharge was allegedly supporting a policy that worked against his own community. Sai further claimed that Kharge was acting under the influence of senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
"Be careful, Kharge ji. History will not forgive you," Sai warned.
