A police officer was killed, and several others sustained injuries following a violent mob attack in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place on Friday in Gadra village of Ramnagari Panchayat, when a police team arrived to quell a dispute between two groups and rescue a man held hostage, who was later found dead.
According to officials, what began as an attempt to mediate an altercation quickly turned violent, with the villagers attacking the police contingent using sticks and stones, leaving multiple personnel injured.
The injured officers have been admitted to Civil Hospital and Ashirwad Hospital in Mauganj where they are undergoing medical treatment.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Kumar of Rewa district assured that the situation is now "under control," and additional security personnel have been deployed to the area.

Kumar elaborated on the incident stating, "In Shahpur police station of Mauganj district, there was a clash where some people were held hostage, and police went to intervene in the matter. In the fold of the incident, stones were also pelted."
"In the incident, one police officer and a civilian died. Apart from this, many police personnel are injured. They have been admitted to the hospital, and their treatment is underway. As of now, the situation in that village is under control, and a heavy police force has been deployed there," he added.
Further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
