The Chhattisgarh government has embarked on a bold initiative to transform Naya Raipur into a leading IT hub, drawing in companies and offering substantial employment opportunities for local youth. This move is part of the state’s new industrial policy aimed at revitalising the region’s economy.
On April 19, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated a BPO facility established by Square Business Service Private Limited in the city's Central Business District (CBD) building. The BPO, which currently provides jobs to around 350 locals, is expected to be a significant catalyst for employment in the region.
Saurabh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA), detailed the ongoing efforts to position Naya Raipur as an IT destination.
“Naya Raipur Development Authority is ensuring plug-and-play space for companies. To date, 1,800 seats have been allocated to four companies, including Teleperformance,” Kumar said.
He noted that efforts are underway to generate 5,000-6,000 jobs in the region, with the district collectors tasked with spreading awareness of job openings in the area.
The BPO’s workforce is diverse, with employees hailing from districts such as Dantewada, Gariaband, and Dhamtari, areas previously associated with naxal insurgency.
Kishan Mandavi, an employee at Square’s BPO from Dantewada, highlighted the significance of these opportunities for people from naxal-hit regions.
“Obtaining a job in an IT company in Naya Raipur was not easy, but the Chhattisgarh government's efforts made my journey smoother,” he said, expressing his commitment to inspiring others from Bastar to follow in his footsteps.
Prashanth Kumar Samal, Centre Head of Square in Raipur, noted that the company aims to expand to 600-650 employees within the next four to six months, with a longer-term goal of employing up to 1,200 people within 18 months. He expressed confidence that other companies would follow suit, turning Naya Raipur into a key IT destination.
The project has also had a positive impact on the broader workforce. Around 92% of Square’s employees come from Chhattisgarh, while the remaining 8% are from states such as Telangana, Odisha, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.
“The state government’s support has made Naya Raipur a viable destination for IT companies,” Samal said, stressing the potential for further employment opportunities, especially for youth from regions like Bastar.
Manorama Sahu, a resident of Dhamtari, spoke about the company’s role in providing skill development and training. “After joining the company, we underwent training to improve our language skills and customer handling,” she said, adding that the company’s recreational activities have fostered a positive work culture.
As the initiative gains traction, Chhattisgarh’s commitment to creating a skilled workforce and fostering economic development through IT sector growth in Naya Raipur is likely to provide a significant boost to the state’s economy and offer youth from across the region opportunities that were previously out of reach.
