The proposed plan is to begin its manufacturing activities towards the end of 2027 with an initial capacity of 0.5 MTPA, further expanding to 1.5 MTPA by the year 2030.

In a major push toward making Andhra Pradesh a global hub for clean energy, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a massive green ammonia and green hydrogen plant in Kakinada. The duo also unveiled a pylon at the site to mark the official start of the project, which carries a staggering investment of ₹13,000 crore.

Spread across 500 acres near Kakinada Port, the facility is being developed by AM Green. What makes this project particularly interesting is the shift in technology; instead of building from scratch, an existing "grey" ammonia plant — which typically relies on fossil fuels — is being redeveloped into a "green" one. This results in an end product which will be eco-Friendly with zero carbon emissions.

The venture enjoys some significant international backing, including collaborations between Malaysian Petronas, Singapore’s GIC, and UAE’s ADIA. The proposed plan is to begin its manufacturing activities towards the end of 2027 with an initial capacity of 0.5 MTPA, further expanding to 1.5 MTPA by the year 2030.

Aside from the effects it can have on the environment, the economic benefit is the primary area where the state government is focusing. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities to the tune of around 8,000 jobs as it fuels other sectors such as logistics and renewable energy. More importantly, this puts Andhra Pradesh on the map as an exporter; the green energy molecules produced here are destined for major global markets like Germany, Japan, and Singapore.

By the time the plant is fully operational, it won't just be one of the largest clean-energy investments in India, but a signal that the state is ready to compete in the global energy transition.
