Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday paid solemn tribute to the police personnel who lost their lives during an ongoing encounter in the Kathua district.
The security operation remains active, with additional reinforcements being deployed to the suspected hideout of the militants.
In a heartfelt post on X, Omar Abdullah expressed both pride and sorrow over the loss of the brave officers. "Pride and grief intertwine as we remember Balwinder Singh Chib, Jaswant Singh, and Tariq Ahmed, who laid down their lives during an anti-terror operation in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir," he wrote.
Extending his sympathies to the bereaved families, he added, "Their sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered. May the departed souls rest in peace, and heartfelt prayers for the swift recovery of those injured."
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed his condolences, hailing the bravery of the fallen officers. "I bow to the valorous martyrs of J&K Police, who laid down their lives for our motherland. My deepest condolences to their families," he stated in a post on X.

Providing an update on the situation, Sinha added that several terrorists had been neutralized in the operation. "J&K Police & Security Forces are on the job. Operation in progress," read the statement from the Lt Governor’s office.
The intense encounter, which erupted in the Ghati sector of Kathua district, lasted through the night, resulting in the deaths of four police personnel and three militants. The clash took place in a remote forested area, adding to the complexity of the operation.
Security forces launched the counter-terror operation early Thursday following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the region. The gunfight continued for hours, with reinforcements being rushed to the area to prevent any escape.
As per the latest reports, the operation was still underway, with security forces working meticulously to ensure the area is completely secured.
