Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed sorrow over the death of five people in a road accident at Lahar near Banikhet on the Pathankot-Chamba National Highway on Tuesday morning.
All five victims, who belonged to the same family, were travelling in a four-wheeler when the tragic accident took place.
Offering his condolences to the family, the Chief Minister said the state government stands with them during this difficult time. He also asked the district administration to extend all possible help to the bereaved family.
He prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the family members to cope with the painful and irreparable loss.
CM Sukhu also reviewed the situation following a flash flood in Chamba's Mohalla Sultanpur, which was triggered by heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The incident damaged two pucca houses, 26 residential houses and a shop. He directed the district administration to provide immediate support to the affected families.
The Chief Minister urged people across the state to stay alert as heavy rain is expected in the coming days. He advised residents to stay away from rivers, nallahs and seasonal khuds, as water levels can rise suddenly and pose a serious threat to life.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the road accident.
In his condolence message, the Governor said he was deeply saddened by the tragic incident and conveyed his sympathies to the families of the victims.
While praying for the departed souls, Gupta said, "May the Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed souls and give strength and courage to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss."
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania also expressed grief over the tragic accident. In his message, Pathania described the accident as extremely painful and horrific, saying the tragedy was difficult to put into words.
Pathania appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel during the monsoon and venture out only when required. He said incidents of cloudbursts and landslides on roads have become increasingly frequent, making it important for everyone to take precautions and prioritise their safety.
The Vidhan Sabha Speaker had also released a video message a day earlier, urging people to remain cautious and follow safety measures during the monsoon season. He also prayed for strength for the relatives and families of those who lost their lives in the accident so they can face this difficult and unbearable loss.
