Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an inspection of the ongoing underground utility duct construction from Chhota Shimla to Willy Park, assessing the progress of the ambitious infrastructure project, a government statement said on Sunday.
During his visit on Saturday, the Chief Minister closely monitored the development of the Rs 146.34 crore project, which aims to modernise Shimla’s urban infrastructure while preserving the city's aesthetics and minimising disruption to daily life.
"This project is a crucial step in strengthening Shimla’s infrastructure and improving the overall visual appeal of the city. The underground ducts will house essential utilities, including drinking water pipelines, electricity lines, and fiber optic cables, ensuring an organised and efficient system," the statement quoted CM Sukhu as saying.
Emphasising the importance of minimising inconvenience to the public, Sukhu assured that all possible measures were being taken to reduce disruptions during the construction phase. He further reiterated the government’s commitment to developing smart infrastructure that aligns with the city's long-term growth and sustainability goals.
The underground utility duct project is expected to streamline essential services, prevent frequent road digging, and enhance urban planning efforts in Shimla, a city known for its colonial charm and hilly terrain.
