Cold conditions grip Punjab and Haryana

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 6.1 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees above normal. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded lows of 6.8 and 7.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the meteorological department.

Punjab and Haryana continued to face cold conditions on Wednesday, even as minimum temperatures in many areas remained slightly above normal, weather officials said.

 

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 6.1 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees above normal. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded lows of 6.8 and 7.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the meteorological department.

 

Bathinda recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. Pathankot recorded 8.5 degrees, Faridkot 7 degrees, and Gurdaspur 5.2 degrees Celsius.

 

Chandigarh, the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius, which was one degree above normal.

 

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a low of 9.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. Hisar recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius, one degree above average.

 

Karnal recorded a minimum temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius. Narnaul and Rohtak saw colder conditions, with minimum temperatures of 4.5 and 4.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

 

Bhiwani recorded a low of 5 degrees Celsius, while Sirsa registered a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius.

Punjab extends school holidays till Jan 7

 

The Punjab government has extended school holidays across the state till January 7 due to ongoing cold weather and dense fog. Earlier, holidays had been announced in all schools from December 24 to December 31.

 

In a post on X, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains announced the decision. He said the extension was made on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, keeping in mind the rising cold and fog and the health and safety of students and staff. He added that all government, aided, recognised and private schools will now reopen on January 8 as per their regular schedule.
