Cold wave intensifies, dense fog covers Dehradun

A thick layer of fog has covered Dehradun, since Saturday morning, worsening cold wave conditions across the city.

 

As per the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Dehradun is expected to be around 10°C, while the maximum temperature is likely to reach about 17°C.

 

The IMD said dense fog is expected at isolated places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, as well as in parts of Nainital, Champawat, and Pauri districts.

The IMD has issued a dense fog alert for December 23 in several cities and districts. Thick fog is expected in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts and in the plains of Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, and Dehradun districts.

 

Meanwhile, the national capital saw a drop in temperature along with a thick layer of toxic smog on Saturday morning, severely reducing visibility and impacting daily life.

 

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, the overall Air Quality Index stood at 380 at around 7 am, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. However, air quality worsened to ‘severe’ levels in several areas.

 

Many parts of Delhi continued to record dangerously high pollution levels. CPCB data showed the AQI at Sarai Kale Khan at 428 and Akshardham at 420. Rao Tularam Marg recorded an AQI of 403, while the Barapullah flyover area stood at 380.

 

Other major pollution hotspots included Anand Vihar with an AQI of 428, Ashok Vihar at 407, and the ITO area at 429, all falling in the ‘severe’ category.

 

As per AQI classification, a reading between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
