Cold wave conditions across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified despite cloudy weather and snowfall forecasts, officials said on Friday. Foggy conditions have also affected flight operations at Srinagar International Airport, with several morning flights cancelled or delayed because of poor visibility, airport officials said.
According to the MeT Department in Srinagar, “cold and dry weather conditions are likely to persist for the next 24 hours, after which the weather pattern is likely to change from December 20 onwards.”
Several weather stations recorded a further dip in minimum temperatures compared to the previous day.
On Thursday night, the minimum temperature in Srinagar dropped to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, while temperatures across north, south, and central Kashmir districts also witnessed a sharp dip.
Jammu Airport remained the warmest place at 11.1 degrees Celsius, while south Kashmir’s Pulwama was the coldest place with minus 4.0 degrees Celsius.
Daytime temperatures have stayed relatively above normal across Jammu and Kashmir, while nighttime temperatures have remained below the freezing point at most weather stations in the Valley.
Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 1.8 degrees, while several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, also witnessed a slight dip in the minimum temperatures.
In the Jammu division, the weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 9.9 degrees Celsius while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote experienced a slight dip in nighttime temperatures in recent weeks.
