The Congress State Disciplinary Committee has served a show cause notice to Channagiri MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga on Sunday. The notice was issued after he stated that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar would become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The statement by Shivaganga has restarted the discussion about a leadership change. This topic was recently put to rest after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted he would complete his five-year term.
"After December, DK will become the CM," Shivaganga told reporters in Davangere on Saturday.
The notice was issued by Nivedith Alwa, the committee’s coordinator. Alwa said that Shivaganga's public statements have caused confusion and embarrassment for the party. He added that the remarks are a serious violation of party discipline. Shivaganga has been given seven days to explain his statements.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress president, expressed his unhappiness with the comments. He called Shivaganga's statement a "violation of party discipline." He said a notice would be served to him, noting that Shivaganga has continued to make such remarks despite previous warnings.
"No one should talk about the CM post," Shivakumar said. "MLAs should follow party discipline. They have been strictly instructed not to create confusion with unnecessary statements and violate party discipline."
