The Himachal Pradesh Government is preparing for its Jan Sankalp rally in Mandi on December 11. The event marks three years of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government.
Senior ministers and party leaders have already reached the district to manage arrangements and mobilise people. Paddal Ground is being prepared for the rally. Police and Home Guard teams have been deployed to ensure security and smooth traffic.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh reached Mandi on Thursday to review the preparations. They are coordinating with departments to ensure the event runs smoothly. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has been in the district since December 8 and is monitoring the arrangements closely with the administration.
HPCC president Vinay Kumar has also arrived in Mandi and is holding meetings with party workers to energise the cadre. Party sources expect a large turnout. The government plans to present its performance report of the past three years and share its roadmap for the next two years. New welfare schemes may be announced, especially for people affected by inflation and the monsoon disaster earlier this year.
Officials say security, traffic management and crowd arrangements are in the final stages. Ministers are inspecting the venue and reviewing logistical plans. The administration expects participation from all parts of the state. They consider this one of the government’s biggest public events since it came to power nearly three years ago.
The event has faced strong criticism from the Opposition. The BJP has accused the Congress government of using public money for a “celebration” while the state is still recovering from monsoon devastation. BJP leaders especially questioned choosing Mandi as the venue, noting that the district suffered heavy destruction this year and reported 42 deaths.
The BJP said the government should focus on rehabilitation, financial aid and long-term disaster planning instead of holding political rallies. The Congress, however, says the rally is meant to reaffirm its commitment to development and public welfare.
