A horrific incident surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district when a police officer allegedly shot dead his wife in a fit of rage before attempting suicide, officials said on Saturday.
Posted as a probationary sub-inspector (PSI) at the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of the north Kashmir district, Deep Singh reportedly had an argument with his wife that turned physical late on Friday, officials said.
During the alleged altercation, Singh allegedly fired in a fit of rage, killing her on the spot. Sources later confirmed that the officer also tried to take his own life but sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the SKIMS in Srinagar for treatment. Singh is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The incident comes at a time when the National Commission for Women (NCW) is hosting Shakti Samvaad to raise awareness about crimes against women across the country.
