A tragic fire accident in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district claimed the lives of a couple on Wednesday night, police said. The incident took place in Dibadih Goreyatand village, under the jurisdiction of Sonahatu Police Station, approximately 60 km from Ranchi.
According to Sonahatu Police Station in-charge Chandan Kumar, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit inside the couple’s house. The flames spread rapidly due to the presence of diesel stored in the residence. There are also reports that an LPG cylinder exploded, which might have worsened the fire. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the blaze.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Sahu (46) and his wife Meena Devi (42). Ranjit Sahu died on the spot due to severe burns, while Meena Devi, who sustained critical injuries, succumbed to her wounds while being rushed to the hospital.
The police have sent both bodies for postmortem to determine the extent of injuries and confirm the cause of death.
Authorities are closely examining the circumstances surrounding the fire, including the possible role of the LPG cylinder explosion. Officials will release further details once the forensic examination and fire investigation are complete.
