Patiala House Court has allowed Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh to attend the upcoming Parliament session while remaining in custody. Rashid is an accused in a terror funding case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The order was passed by Special NIA Judge Prashant Sharma after hearing arguments from Rashid 's counsel and the NIA. The court has permitted Rashid to attend the Parliament session from July 20 to August 13.

The court directed jail authorities to escort Rashid to Parliament in custody whenever the House is in session and bring him back to jail after the proceedings conclude each day.

Rashid had moved the application through his counsel, Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, seeking custody parole to attend the upcoming Parliament session.

Appearing for the NIA, Special Public Prosecutor Gautam Khazanchi told the court that the agency had no objection to Rashid attending Parliament while remaining in custody.

This is not the first such relief granted to Rashid. He had earlier been allowed to attend Parliament in custody and was also granted interim bail to attend his father's last rites.

Rashid has been in judicial custody in connection with an NIA case registered in 2017. The agency has also filed a supplementary chargesheet against him in the case.
