A sessions court in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, has granted regular bail to the uncle and brother of local BJP MLA Ashish Kumar in an illegal mining case, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials, the MLA’s brother Umesh Sharma and uncle Praveen Sharma were released from jail after spending 17 days in judicial custody. The two accused had surrendered before the court on April 15, following which the local court remanded them to judicial custody.
The case dates back to August 13, 2025, when police conducted a raid at the Mahalaxmi Stone Crusher in Pungh Khad under the Sujanpur police station limits. Praveen Sharma and Umesh Sharma were partners in the crusher unit.
During the raid, police seized stones, gravel, machinery and other equipment and filed a case related to illegal mining activities.
Police had also booked two employees of the stone crusher. Both employees were granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court on March 19, 2026, while similar pleas filed by Praveen Sharma and Umesh Sharma had earlier been rejected.
