Panic spread at the Ropar judicial complex on Thursday morning after authorities received an email threatening a bomb attack on the court premises. Security agencies acted fast and evacuated the complex as a precaution, forcing an abrupt halt to all judicial proceedings.
As per official sources, the threatening email was received by judicial authorities earlier in the day. The message warned of an attempt to blow up the court building.
The incident was immediately reported to the police. After this, all courtrooms and offices inside the complex were vacated. Advocates, litigants, court staff and members of the public were asked to leave, triggering confusion and anxiety at the site.
According to eyewitnesses, panic spread quickly among people who had come for hearings and other legal work. Many rushed out of the complex, while police moved in to secure the area. Security was tightened and access roads were kept under close watch.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Khurana said a probe had been initiated. “We received information about an email threatening to blow up the judicial complex. Security measures were taken immediately and the area was evacuated. The matter is under investigation,” he said.
Sources stated that the impact of the threat was not limited to Ropar alone. As a precaution, the judicial complex at Anandpur Sahib was also evacuated, amid fears of a coordinated threat or a wider security risk.
Police teams were deployed at both locations to carry out thorough checks and ensure the safety of lives and public property. Police said cyber teams were working to trace the origin of the threatening email.
Court functioning is expected to resume only after security agencies issue a clearance.
Meanwhile, panic also prevailed in Moga town on Thursday after a bomb threat email was received on the official email ID of district judicial authorities.
SSP Moga Ajay Gandhi said the district court complex was evacuated immediately after the email was received.
Officials said the threat email was sent to the official email account of the District and Sessions Judge, prompting an urgent security response.
As soon as the alert was received, judicial staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors were asked to leave the court premises without delay, even as routine court proceedings were underway.
A heavy police presence was deployed at the site and the entire court complex was cordoned off. Senior police officers, including the SSP, reached the spot to supervise the security arrangements.
