Punjab Police on Wednesday busted a cross-border arms smuggling racket with the arrest of two individuals in Amritsar. Police also recovered seven sophisticated pistols and 40 live cartridges from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said.
According to the DGP, the investigation found that the accused were in contact with foreign-based arms smugglers through social media. They allegedly received consignments of weapons through cross-border routes and supplied them to criminal elements.
A case has been lodged at Sultanwind police station in Amritsar. Police said further investigation is underway to identify others linked to the smuggling network.
