Senior IPS officer M Sunil Nayak has allegedly not been cooperating with investigators even after six days of questioning in connection with the alleged custodial torture of K Raghurama Krishnaraju, the Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, officials said.

Nayak, an IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, is being interrogated over the alleged torture of Krishnaraju during his detention at the CID regional office when the latter was serving as the MP from Narasapuram, Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said the investigation team, led by Damodar, questioned Nayak for several hours on Tuesday. However, officials claimed he continued the pattern seen in previous interrogations by giving evasive replies and frequently stating that he could not recall key details. Based on responses gathered during the previous five days of questioning, investigators prepared a set of supplementary questions and confronted him with them during Tuesday’s interrogation.

On Monday, the probe team carried out a scene reconstruction at the CID regional office in Guntur to determine what happened on the night Krishnaraju was detained. Using the findings from that exercise, investigators raised fresh questions to clarify the sequence of events.

Officials said the team asked Nayak who was on duty that night, which officers were assigned specific responsibilities, and who supervised the operations at the office. According to sources, Nayak responded that he was unaware of these details and said such duties were handled by lower-level officers.

Investigators also questioned him about the exact time he entered the CID office on the night of the detention. Officials said his responses were inconsistent and did not match details gathered during the reconstruction.

The interrogation reportedly lasted from 10 am to 5 pm, during which investigators asked more than 100 questions. However, officials said Nayak failed to give clear answers to many of them.

Authorities indicated that questioning may continue as investigators attempt to establish a clear timeline of events and determine the roles played by officers present at the CID office on the night of Krishnaraju’s detention.
