Two brothers, allegedly involved in the murder of a businessman, were injured in separate encounters with the police while trying to escape, officials said on Thursday.
One of the accused, Raju Rana, has a criminal history. Police said he involved his elder brother, Pankaj Rana, in the killing of the businessman, Arjun Sharma.
The encounters occurred in the Doiwala and Ladpur areas of Dehradun late on Wednesday night when the two were attempting to escape. Both were taken to Coronation Hospital for treatment, officials said.
Initial probe revealed that Raju works as an e-rickshaw driver and had earlier killed his stepfather in 1997, police said. During initial questioning, Raju told the police that he agreed to carry out the murder for nearly Rs 15 lakh and later persuaded Pankaj to join him.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said detailed investigation is being carried out in the incident and efforts are underway to determine the exact motive behind the killing.
Sharma (42) was shot dead by two scooter-borne attackers in broad daylight outside a temple in the Tibetan Market area on Wednesday. Based on a complaint filed by the businessman’s wife, four people, including Sharma’s mother, have been booked in connection with the incident.
