The Delhi government on Thursday approved projects worth ₹728 crore to upgrade roads, drainage and civic amenities in the trans-Yamuna area, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said after chairing a meeting of the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board at the Delhi Secretariat.
The projects aim to address long-standing infrastructure gaps in the trans-Yamuna region, which is home to nearly one-third of the city’s population and has lagged behind other parts of Delhi in civic development.
Gupta said there would be no shortage of funds for works recommended by the board. She alleged that the panel remained inactive during the previous government’s tenure, leading to a “near-total halt” in development activities in the area.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure speedy repairs of damaged roads and strengthening of drainage systems, particularly to prevent waterlogging ahead of the monsoon.

Development Minister Kapil Mishra said the region had remained deprived despite growing demands caused by population increase. “Concrete efforts are now being made to correct this imbalance. Infrastructure development in the area would be carried out at the same level as seen in other parts of Delhi,” he said.
Mishra added that special emphasis would be placed on roads, drainage, public amenities and tourism-related works to ensure the trans-Yamuna belt is counted among the capital’s developed areas.
The meeting was attended by board chairman and Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, who said the proposals submitted by MLAs from the region were crucial for addressing local needs.
Lovely said a collective approach would be key to transforming the basic infrastructure landscape of the trans-Yamuna area.
