The newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi has terminated all co-terminus appointments in the offices of the former chief minister and cabinet ministers. The move came just a day after Rekha Gupta assumed office as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
An official order issued on Thursday stated, “All the officers, officials and staff from various departments, organisations, corporations, boards, hospitals, etc. ‘deployed in diverted capacity’ in the offices of CM and ministers shall be deemed to have been relieved from duties with immediate effect and shall report to their respective departments, boards, autonomous bodies, corporations, hospitals, etc. with immediate effect.”
Further, the directive clarified, “The offices of CM and Ministers will submit fresh proposals to GAD… However, regular staff of DANICS, DSS and Steno cadre will continue to work in their respective offices under the newly sworn-in Chief Minister, Ministers till further orders.”
First administrative steps
The removal of personal staff marks the beginning of a significant restructuring process within the Delhi government under Chief Minister Gupta.
The decision signals a shift in governance following the BJP’s electoral victory, with the new administration keen on implementing its policies.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is scheduled to chair a review meeting with the Delhi Jal Board and the Public Works Department today.
The meeting will focus on road repairs and maintenance in the national capital, particularly the persistent issue of potholes.
The BJP, in its poll manifesto, had pledged to improve Delhi’s road infrastructure and ease traffic congestion.
Major cabinet decisions
During the first Cabinet meeting, two key agendas were approved: the reinstatement of the Ayushman Yojana and the presentation of pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports.
The Ayushman Yojana, which had been halted by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government, will now be implemented in Delhi.
Under the revived scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive an additional health coverage of ₹5 lakh, along with other benefits.
Additionally, 14 pending CAG reports were approved for presentation in the Delhi Assembly, ensuring financial scrutiny and accountability within the government.
The cabinet also deliberated on a financial assistance scheme offering ₹2,500 to women, aiming to bolster welfare and empowerment initiatives.
The inaugural session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly is expected to take place from 24 February to 27 February. This will be the first session since Rekha Gupta took the oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister.
