The Delhi government on Thursday launched the Green Drive Portal, a digital platform aimed at encouraging public participation in its ambitious target of planting 70 lakh saplings across the national capital under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Launching the initiative, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the portal integrates multiple services on a single platform, enabling residents to book plantation drives, register as volunteers, and obtain free saplings with ease.
"The objective is not merely to plant trees but to restore Delhi's ecological balance and build a cleaner, greener city for future generations," Gupta said while urging citizens to participate in the campaign.
The portal allows residents to register as 'Environmental Saviours', reserve slots for plantation drives and locate nearby government nurseries distributing free saplings. It also features a nursery locator and facilitates doorstep delivery of saplings through the government's 'Vriksh Rath' service.
Schools, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), housing societies, offices and other institutions with suitable open spaces can also request free saplings through the portal for community plantation drives.
A large number of Delhi Green Warriors attended the launch event, pledging to promote the campaign at the grassroots level and encourage wider public participation in environmental conservation.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the initiative seeks to transform tree plantation into a people's movement rather than a government programme alone.
"Our aim is not just to plant 70 lakh saplings but to make every citizen a stakeholder in Delhi's environmental future," he said.
The portal forms part of the government's broader environmental strategy, which also includes the Ridge Forest Revitalisation Programme. Scheduled to be inaugurated later this month by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the programme will focus on expanding green cover across the Ridge stretching from north to south Delhi.
Officials said a three-tier forest structure would be developed in the Ridge to improve biodiversity, enhance carbon sequestration and strengthen soil conservation.
As part of its wider sustainability agenda, the government also plans to introduce 300 new electric buses and launch new inter-state bus routes, complementing its efforts to improve air quality and promote environmentally sustainable urban transport.
