The Delhi government is set to address the city’s parking woes with a comprehensive new strategy keeping in mind troubles faced by vehicle owners and passersby in the national capital.
Officials announced that directions will soon be issued to alleviate the parking situation in the national capital, incorporating user-centric provisions for pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles.
In a recent meeting, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena instructed transport and other relevant departments to develop area-specific parking plans (APPs).
The focus will be on accommodating diverse user needs, including those of differently-abled individuals, public transit users, and parking requirements for schools and public institutions.
Previously, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi submitted parking plans for 17 colonies to the city's transport department. However, only four plans were approved, and just two are set for implementation in Lajpat Nagar.
The Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Places Rules, notified two years ago, introduced “peak” and “non-peak” pricing, which adjusts charges during GRAP implementation and utilizes advanced technology for managing parking spaces.
