Winter conditions have intensified across several parts of Punjab and Haryana on Friday as dense fog covered many areas in both states.
Hoshiarpur in Punjab recorded the lowest temperature in the region, with the mercury dipping to 4.8 degrees Celsius, according to the local meteorological department.
Officials said dense fog reduced visibility at many places across Punjab and Haryana during the morning hours.
In Punjab, Pathankot recorded a minimum temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda saw the mercury fall to 5.2 degrees Celsius. Faridkot and Gurdaspur reported lows of 5.8 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Among other Punjab cities, Amritsar recorded a minimum of 9.3 degrees Celsius, which was five degrees above normal. Ludhiana and Patiala registered lows of 10.6 and 9.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, the Meteorological Department said.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.9 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Ambala recorded a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, while Hisar recorded a low of 9.5 degrees Celsius.
Karnal recorded a minimum of 10.2 degrees Celsius, Narnaul 5.1 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Sirsa registered lows of 9.2, 6, and 7.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
