Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Udham Singh Nagar district on Thursday. He performed a ceremonial worship as part of the event and also laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Khatima-Melaghat State Highway (State Highway No. 107).
The project, valued at Rs 2,089.74 lakh, involves rebuilding an 11.50 km stretch of road. It also includes building a KC drainage system, implementing road safety measures, installing road signage, and strengthening the highway with TBM and BC layers.
Dhami said this road is not only vital for the development of the Khatima region but also an important route connecting the India-Nepal border. Its improvement will allow smoother transportation for Khatima and nearby rural areas and boost cross-border trade, tourism, and educational opportunities.
He stressed that in addition to road construction, there would be a special focus on preventing soil erosion and enhancing local drainage systems to ensure the road remains safe and durable over time. He pointed out that Khatima has now become an educational hub, drawing students from both Uttarakhand and neighbouring border areas.
In his address, Dhami said the state government aims to make every region of Uttarakhand accessible, strong, and prosperous. Each development project is a step toward improving people’s lives, and the Khatima-Melaghat road will be a milestone in this effort.
He said the Uttarakhand government was committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that “connectivity is the backbone of development.”
In this spirit, road expansion and modernisation in Uttarakhand are being carried out rapidly. He also directed officials to ensure roads remain pothole-free.
Concluding the programme, the Chief Minister extended greetings to the public for the upcoming Diwali and other festivals. He reminded everyone that maintaining security, harmony, and cleanliness during the festive season is a shared responsibility.
