Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday launched the ‘Solar Awareness Souvenir Booklet’ prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The booklet was unveiled at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said the release of the booklet was not just a formal event. He said it reflected a shared commitment towards building a strong, self-reliant and green future for Uttarakhand.
He added that the world was currently dealing with major challenges like climate change, energy shortage and environmental degradation. In such a situation, solar energy is not only an option but a necessary step for future generations.
Dhami said under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, implemented with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand has achieved significant progress. He said these achievements were becoming an example for other states.
He further said the state had reached its initial goal of installing 40,000 rooftop solar plants ahead of time. Around 95 per cent of the target has already been completed, placing Uttarakhand among the top-performing states in the country.
The Chief Minister also noted that since 2024, the state has seen nearly a tenfold rise in solar capacity within two years. He said about 290 MW of rooftop solar systems have been installed in the residential sector, calling it a major step towards energy self-reliance.
He praised the coordinated work of UPCL, UREDA, district officials and other departments involved in the programme. He said the success reflects the strong teamwork of “Team Uttarakhand”.
Dhami also mentioned awareness efforts such as the Solar Kauthig campaign, street plays and training programmes for officials. He said these initiatives have helped spread awareness about solar energy across the state, and appreciated the contribution of CEEW.
He said the government’s aim is not only to install solar systems but also to involve every citizen in the clean energy movement. He added that solar adoption will reduce electricity bills, support environmental protection and ensure a cleaner future.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that in the coming years, Uttarakhand will emerge as a leading model state in renewable energy for the entire country.
