Multiple drone sightings near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pukhrani area of the Nowshera sector on Thursday night triggered an alert among security forces.
According to officials, the movement was noticed around 11 pm, after which troops in the sector were immediately put on alert. They said surveillance in the forward area had been intensified to monitor any further activity.
Authorities are verifying whether the drones originated from across the border and if they attempted to drop any material in the area. Security forces are maintaining a strict vigil to thwart possible infiltration or smuggling attempts.
Earlier, on August 25, security forces launched an operation after around half a dozen drones from Pakistan were sighted hovering over several forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The movement of the drones from across the border was picked up over Balakote, Langote, and Gursai Nallah in the Mendhar sector around 9:15 pm on Sunday, officials said.
However, the area was cordoned off, and a search was launched at first light of the day in several areas where the drone activity was noticed to ensure that no weapons or narcotics had been air-dropped.
The use of drones by Pakistan to drop weapons and narcotics has emerged as a major challenge for security agencies over the past few years. The police have announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for anyone providing information about sighting of drones.
