The Punjab Police on Wednesday said it has busted an international drug smuggling module, arresting two persons and recovering 10 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) and 4 kg of heroin.
Initial inquiry showed that the accused were in contact with a drug smuggler based in Dubai. Officials said the handler was operating from Abu Dhabi or Dubai and was directing them to traffic drugs in Punjab and Delhi.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said one of the accused had recently returned from Dubai. He was allegedly trained there and assigned the task of transporting heroin and ICE consignments. These drugs were further supplied across the Majha and Doaba regions.
Police said an FIR has been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further probe is ongoing to trace backward and forward links. Police are also trying to identify other members of the network and recover more consignments.
