The Election Commission of India on Monday transferred the senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of five districts in Assam, a day after announcing the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
According to an official notification, the SSPs of Majuli, South Salmara, Sadiya, Chirang and Dhemaji districts have been shifted with immediate effect as part of election-related administrative reshuffle.
In Majuli, SSP Haren Tokbi has been replaced by Somalin Shubhdarshini. In South Salmara, R Sheetal Kumar has taken charge in place of Mrinal Kumar Deka.

Similarly, Jagadish Das has been replaced by Anchal Chauhan in Sadiya district, while Sudhakar Singh has replaced Dhruba Bora as the SSP of Chirang. In Dhemaji district, Mohan Lal Meena has taken over from Swapnaneel Deka.
The transfers come a day after the poll panel announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in the state.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
Election-related transfers of officials are routinely carried out by the poll panel to ensure neutrality and smooth conduct of the electoral process during the Model Code of Conduct period.
