The Three-Town police in Telangana’s Siddipet have registered cases against eight MBBS students of Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences for allegedly ragging a junior student on two separate occasions. The victim, first-year student A. Sai Krishna, claimed he was harassed twice within a span of a week.
According to Krishna’s complaint, the first incident occurred on November 19, just two days after he had joined the medical course. He alleged that a group of senior students confronted him for growing a beard, accusing him of not “respecting” them. Although Krishna explained that the beard was part of a religious vow taken at a temple, the seniors allegedly dragged him to a hostel room and forcibly trimmed it. They reportedly made him stand for an hour, answer random questions, confiscated his mobile phones, and made him perform sit-ups.
Krishna also stated that he informed the college’s anti-ragging committee, but no action was taken.
Following complaints from his parents, the Siddipet Three-Town police arrived at the campus on Wednesday evening and initiated an inquiry. Based on their preliminary findings, the college suspended four senior students.
However, Krishna was allegedly harassed again on November 25. This time, another group of four seniors allegedly targeted him out of anger over the disciplinary action taken against their friends.
Krishna said the students ordered him to move the cricket equipment from the ground to a room on an upper floor. When he refused, they questioned his “newfound courage” and insisted he must always greet and obey his seniors.
His mother, A. Vani, filed a fresh complaint on Wednesday after the second incident came to light. Circle Inspector Ch. Vidyasagar confirmed that cases have been registered against all eight senior students allegedly involved in both incidents.
“Further investigation is underway. The Anti-Ragging Team is also examining the second complaint,” he said.
