One terrorist was killed during an ongoing operation by security forces in a remote area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.
According to security officials, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the upper forest belt of Kishtwar district. The officials confirmed that the firefight started after the Army launched a cordon and search operation in the Chatroo forest area after specific intelligence about the presence of two Pakistani terrorists affiliated with the prescribed Jaish-e-Mohammad.
The terrorists were hiding inside a mudhouse on the foothills of a hill. They opened fire on the approaching troops, which led to an intense gunfight.
One terrorist has been killed in the encounter so far, the officials said. Officials believe that at least two terrorists are trapped at the encounter site, with more reinforcements rushing to the spot.
They said that all entry and exit points leading to the area have been sealed. Security forces are maintaining high vigilance and tightening the cordon around the trapped terrorists. The snow-bound Chatroo forest belt witnessed nearly half a dozen gunfights between terrorists and security forces last month, resulting in the killing of a soldier and a terrorist. In January, security forces engaged terrorists in multiple encounters, leading to the killing of a Jaish-linked terrorist.
From January 18 to February 3, as many as five firefights had occurred between terrorists who constantly fled the spots after getting trapped. This is developing news. More details will follow as they emerge.
