An encounter broke out on late Sunday night in the Zaloora Gujjarpati area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district after security forces discovered a terrorist hideout.
The operation began as a joint effort by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the region.
The forces launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in Sopore, and during the operation, suspicious movements were observed. When security forces challenged the suspects, the terrorists opened fire. In retaliation, the forces responded effectively, leading to an ongoing exchange of gunfire.
Videos shared online, including those from ANI, captured the sounds of gunshots during the operation. The Chinar Corps confirmed on social media that "Operation Gujjarpatti" started after receiving precise intelligence inputs.
The Kashmir Zone Police also reported the discovery of a hideout during the search operation. They stated, “During a CASO launched by Police & SFs at Zaloora, Sopore, a hideout was busted. During the same, fire was observed from inside, and the area was cordoned off. Further details shall follow.”
As of now, no casualties have been reported, and the encounter between the terrorists and security forces is still ongoing. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
This encounter comes just days after a major operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, where 18 Maoists were killed in a dense forest area.
Among them were members of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army, the armed wing of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). Security forces described this operation as a significant blow to the Maoist insurgency in the Bastar region.
