An engineering student at Jaypee University of Information Technology in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district was injured after reportedly attempting suicide by jumping from a hostel building, the police said on Thursday.
The incident took place late on Wednesday night when the victim jumped from the hostel rooftop and sustained serious injuries. Other students noticed what had happened and immediately informed the university authorities as well as the police.
The student was given first-aid on campus before being shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College for further treatment.
Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Solan, Tirumalaraju SD Varma, said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the case.
Tension briefly prevailed on the campus, as some students raised slogans against the university authorities after the incident. University officials said they were examining the situation and looking into the factors that may have led to the alleged suicide attempt.
