Erratic weather conditions are expected to continue across Jammu and Kashmir as the Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted light rain, accompanied by gusty winds, and lightning over the next few days.
Gusty winds caused widespread damage in central and north Kashmir, while rains have been lashing south Kashmir since Saturday.
According to the MeT office in Srinagar, similar weather conditions are likely to persist in the Union Territory in the coming days. On Monday, strong winds caused major damage to infrastructure in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, while several trees were uprooted in Baramulla, damaging orchards in the process.
In a separate incident, a nomadic family in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district lost nearly 90 sheep and goats after a lightning strike hit their flock in the upper reaches of Kangan. The livestock was the family’s only source of income.
Meanwhile, the MeT office has issued a fresh advisory warning of possible lightning strikes, gusty winds, and rainfall across several parts of the Valley. Cloudy weather conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, while temperatures have dropped significantly across the Kashmir Valley.
