With concerns about the safety of evidence in prominent cases such as the 'Note for Vote' scam, in which Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is implicated, the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory has assured that all material evidence in such cases is still in a state of safety. FSL Director Shikha Goel clarified on Sunday that in the 'Note for Vote' case, all 16 items received from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) back in 2015 were returned to the court in 2021, meaning no related material is currently stored at the laboratory.
Regarding the ongoing phone-tapping investigation, Goel stated that 136 items were received between 2024 and January 2026. While most have already been submitted to the authorities, seven items remaining in the FSL are currently under tight security.
This assurance comes in the wake of a fire that broke out at the laboratory on Sunday morning, damaging the computer lab, library, and conference hall.
While the computer lab sustained damage, Goel expressed confidence that the FSL's specialised team can retrieve all necessary data from the affected machines. The fire, which was noticed around 10:00 a.m. by an staff member, was brought under control by 1:30 p.m. A formal police case has been registered at the Nampally police station, and investigations by both police and fire departments are underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze, while all other laboratory facilities continue to operate normally.
