Former Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was produced before a local court in Amritsar this Sunday, where he was remanded to police custody for three days. While the police had originally pushed for a five-day remand to deepen their investigation, the court settled on three days after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
The case follows the registration of an FIR against Bhullar under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically citing sections 108 for abetment to suicide, 351 for criminal intimidation, and 3(5) regarding common intention. The charges against Bhullar follow the death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa — a district manager at the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation — whose death was reportedly a suicide. In a note or statement left behind, Randhawa, reportedly, alleged that accused the former minister of mental harassment and physical torture.
The case reportedly began with tenders issued in October 2025 for new warehouses in Patti and Khemkaran in Tarn Taran. According to Upinder Kaur, Randhawa’s wife, the case was about tenders issued in October 2025 for new warehouses in Patti and Khemkaran in Tarn Taran. She claimed that the pressure and ill-treatment her husband was subjected to over tenders became so unbearable that he had no other option but to suicide. Bhullar is to be grilled by the police over these charges against him while in custody.
