Three labourers lost their lives in the early hours of Sunday morning after a house undergoing repairs collapsed in the village of Pharwahi, located in Punjab’s Barnala district. According to Sadar SHO Jagjit Singh, the victims were crushed under falling debris when the structure gave way during the construction work. It is understood that the homeowner had engaged a private contractor to oversee the project.
Local residents informed reporters that the property had suffered previous structural damage, and the ongoing work involved lifting and restoring the building. The collapse reportedly began when a single wall buckled, bringing the rest of the house down and trapping the men beneath the rubble.
Although emergency services managed to pull the workers out and rush them to the Barnala civil hospital, they were tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police officials have stated that they are currently in the process of recording statements from the bereaved family members. Further legal action and a full investigation into the circumstances of the collapse will follow once these initial enquiries are complete.
