Patna High Court grants bail to Anant Singh in Dularchand Yadav murder case months after arrest.

Patna High Court on Thursday granted bail to Anant Singh, popularly known as “Chhote Sarkar”, nearly four months after his arrest in connection with the murder of former RJD leader Dularchand Yadav.

Yadav (75), who was associated with the Jan Suraaj Party, was killed on October 30, 2025, during a violent clash between supporters of rival candidates in Mokama amid campaigning for the Bihar Assembly elections.

According to the post-mortem report, Yadav died due to cardiorespiratory failure triggered by shock caused by injuries to the heart and lungs inflicted by a hard and blunt object.

Police sources said the incident occurred when Yadav was travelling in a convoy during campaigning. The convoy of Anant Singh allegedly approached from the opposite direction, leading to a confrontation between the two groups. The situation quickly escalated into stone-pelting, leaving several people injured.

When police reached the spot near Tartar village, Yadav was found lying in the back seat of a vehicle.

Investigators had earlier stated that Singh was allegedly present at the scene during the incident. Following protests over the killing, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Despite being in custody, Singh contested the Mokama Assembly seat as a candidate of the Janata Dal (United) and emerged victorious.

He was later granted interim relief to take the oath as an MLA and also attended the Assembly to cast his vote in the recent Rajya Sabha elections.

In a separate development earlier this week, Singh indicated that he may step back from electoral politics. Referring to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he said he would not contest future elections if Kumar does not continue in the top post.

“If Nitish Kumar does not remain Chief Minister, I will not contest elections. This is my last oath as an MLA,” Singh said.

He clarified, however, that he is not retiring from public life. “I will continue to work for the people, but will not fight elections. My children will contest in the future,” he added.
