Ex-RJD MP Sarfaraz Alam joins Jan Suraaj

Alam is the son of the late RJD leader Tasleem Uddin, who was influential in the Seemanchal region. "I salute Jan Suraaj, which, under the vision of founder Prashant Kishor, has resolved to change Bihar," he said after joining the party.

Referring to his father, Sarfaraz Alam said Tasleem Uddin "fought a long battle to ensure social justice and equality in Seemanchal, apart from giving a voice to the region."

Sarfaraz Alam, a former Lok Sabha MP and four-time MLA from Jokihat, Bihar, has joined the Jan Suraaj Party following his resignation from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Alam is the son of the late RJD leader Tasleem Uddin, who was influential in the Seemanchal region. "I salute Jan Suraaj, which, under the vision of founder Prashant Kishor, has resolved to change Bihar," he said after joining the party.

The former RJD leader explained to reporters that the Jan Suraaj Party would allow him to carry forward his father’s legacy and fight for the people of Seemanchal, adding that he "was feeling suffocated" for a long time within his previous party. He expressed a sense of monotonous inertia, stating, "There was the same old 'daal-chatni'."

Referring to his father, Alam said Tasleem Uddin "fought a long battle to ensure social justice and equality in Seemanchal, apart from giving a voice to the region." He broadened his focus, stating: "This is not just about Muslims. Poverty needs to come down across the board," while alleging that over the past 30 years, education in Bihar has deteriorated and corruption has risen sharply.

Welcoming Alam into the organisation, Prashant Kishor said his induction would mark a shift from the "politics of fear to the politics of development" in Seemanchal. "Jan Suraaj will draw a long line of legacy in the Seemanchal region under Sarfaraz Alam’s leadership," Kishor asserted.

Taking a veiled swipe at the AIMIM, Kishor added: "Only a Muslim of Seemanchal can understand the grievances of the region. No one coming from Hyderabad can do that."

Kishor then accused both the NDA and the INDIA bloc of "selling seats" at exorbitant prices, alleging: "There is infighting within the alliances as they are in a competition to sell seats." The Jan Suraaj founder also reiterated his allegations against Bihar's Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, stating Choudhary should clarify whether he passed his Class 10 exams and what his role was in the 1995 murder case. Kishor confirmed he would legally challenge Samrat’s election affidavit for omissions and irregularities.
