Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah stated on Sunday that the restoration of statehood will provide a 'significant boost' to development in J&K.
He added that once statehood is restored, the Union Territory (UT) government will have the autonomy to make decisions on key matters without having to consult with the Lieutenant Governor's administration.
Speaking during a public interaction at his residence, the former chief minister emphasised that the Omar-led government would ensure that the benefits of governance reach every household.
“The winds of change have brought a democratic government to the region, with Omar sahib at the helm, steering us towards safer shores. This will work for every section of society, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every doorstep,” he said.

Abdullah further stated that the signs of change are already evident, with development on the rise, which is expected to accelerate once statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
“I am confident that the Centre will uphold its promise and grant full statehood, paving the way for rapid progress,” Abdullah said.
Meanwhile, an NC spokesperson mentioned that delegations had briefed Abdullah on the significant improvements observed since the formation of the elected government in October last year.
The delegations highlighted that the administration has become more responsive and attentive to public concerns, with people now able to reach out easily to the secretariats in Jammu and Srinagar, the spokesperson added.
They also raised long-standing issues that have worsened over the years due to the lack of a democratic government.
