As IndiGo’s flight cancellation crisis disrupted the plans of many passengers, it also hit the Panghal family from Mayna village in Rohtak. After their IndiGo flight was cancelled, Rajnarayan Panghal, a sports enthusiast and advocate, drove through the night to cover nearly 800 km to Indore (Madhya Pradesh) so his son could reach in time for his Class XII pre-board exam.
He said his son, Ashish Chaudhary Panghal (17), a shooting player, studies in Class XII at a college in Indore. Ashish had come home on leave and was due to take his pre-board exams on December 8. Before that, he was supposed to be honoured at the college on the evening of December 6. “His flight from Delhi to Indore was booked, and I had gone to drop him at the Delhi airport,” Raj Narayan said.
At the airport, they were told that the IndiGo flight to Indore had been cancelled. The cancellation meant Ashish would miss not only the award ceremony but might also miss his exams starting December 8. Raj Narayan said getting a confirmed train seat at short notice was also very difficult.
“Faced with this situation, I decided that even with the cancelled flight and no confirmed train ticket, I would make sure my son reached Indore on time for his exams. The distance from Delhi to Indore is around 800 km. So I drove through the night and reached Indore the next morning, ensuring my son made it to his exam on time,” Raj Narayan said.
