Popular financial influencer Abhishek Kar, known for his insights on investments and startups, recently apologised for comments he made about Assam's traditions during a podcast.
With nearly 3 million Instagram followers and 2 million YouTube subscribers, his remarks quickly sparked backlash.
The controversy began after a clip from a podcast by entrepreneur Riya Upreti went viral. In it, Abhishek Kar claimed that women in Mayong, Assam, could use supernatural powers to turn humans into goats and back, as part of tantric practices.
The comments were widely criticised for spreading misinformation about the state.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) highlighted the issue, calling the remarks "unacceptable" and urging action against Mr. Kar. GP Singh, Assam’s Director General of Police, promptly responded, stating that lawful action would follow.
In response, Abhishek Kar posted a video apology, expressing regret for his statements. With folded hands, he apologised to the people of Assam, the CMO, and all concerned parties.
He stated that his intent was not to hurt anyone and promised to be more cautious in the future when referencing secondary sources of information.
Mr. Kar also requested the podcast host to remove the offensive clip, emphasising his commitment to avoiding such incidents in the future.
