In the Dewas murder case in Madhya Pradesh, a married man allegedly killed his live-in partner and kept her body in a refrigerator for nearly eight months.
The decomposed body of the woman, identified as Pinky Prajapati, was discovered on Friday inside the fridge at a house rented by the accused, Sanjay Patidar.
The victim, who was wearing a saree and jewellery with her hands tied and a noose around her neck, was likely murdered in June 2024. According to the police, Patidar, a resident of Ujjain, had been in a live-in relationship with Prajapati for five years.
She had reportedly been pressuring him to marry her, which might have led him to kill her with the help of a friend.
The body was found after neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the house. They called the landlord, who opened part of the house and discovered the woman’s body in the refrigerator, with its shelves removed. The landlord then contacted the police.

Patidar had rented the house in June 2023, but a year later, he vacated it while leaving some of his belongings behind. The landlord had been unaware of the body inside the fridge until the power supply was turned off, causing the refrigerator to stop working and the smell to spread.
The incident has drawn comparisons to the infamous Shraddha Walkar murder case in Delhi, where Aaftab Amin Poonawala is accused of killing his live-in partner, chopping her body, and storing it in a refrigerator to hide the crime.
The Dewas murder case is still under investigation, with Patidar now the prime suspect.
