Security forces dismantled bunkers erected by Kuki and Naga volunteers in Manipur’s Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, leading to a marked decline in hostilities, according to official reports on Wednesday.
The coordinated operations followed appeals from the Sinakeithei Village Authority and the Central Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation, which had sought immediate removal of illegal fortifications allegedly set up by the Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) in foothill areas of Kamjong district.
Acting on these representations, security personnel launched simultaneous operations across multiple locations under Litan police station limits in Ukhrul district. Bunkers at Lengiangching and Mongkat Chepu villages, associated with both communities, were dismantled. Several fired cartridges were recovered during the exercise, indicating recent use of the positions.
Officials said the bulk of defensive structures on both sides have been rendered ineffective. As a result, incidents of firing have reduced considerably. Security agencies have since established area domination through intensified patrolling and calibrated deployment of forces to prevent any resurgence of violence.

In a separate operation in neighbouring Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the general areas of Tingkhai Khullen and Nepali Khutti under New Keithelmanbi police station.
The seizure included one 9mm carbine with a magazine, two country-made 9mm pistols, four pistol magazines, three country-made single-barrel bolt-action rifles, and two single-barrel pull-mechanism rifles. Two improvised mortars were also recovered. In addition, seven 12-bore cartridges, 55 rounds of assorted ammunition, and two kilograms of pellets were seized.
The twin operations form part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the security situation in Manipur’s hill districts, where tensions between communities have periodically escalated into violence. Authorities continue to maintain a heightened presence in sensitive areas to ensure that peace holds.
