Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that those who tried to create a rift in J&K had failed. Abdullah said that the Union Territory stands united and must collectively move towards development.
During his media interaction on the sidelines of the reopening of the offices in Jammu, he said, “Those who wanted to separate Jammu and Kashmir have failed today.” “The parts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are one,” he added.
Taking a swipe at the BJP, he said those politicising the issue should “leave politics” and instead focus on development and the welfare of the people across both regions.
Senior Abdullah said Jammu, too, would progress and hoped it would gain “maximum benefit” from the arrival of the Secretariat.
“The erstwhile state has to rise again, above politics, above creed, caste, and community, and stand united against divisive forces trying to widen the gap between Kashmiris and the people of Jammu,” he said.
Dr Farooq said, “I was happy seeing the Jammu Trade and Chamber of Commerce and Industry greeting officials upon their arrival at the Jammu Secretariat.”
Calling the transition a “big step” initiated by Maharaja Hari Singh, Farooq said the move reflected unity among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It meant that the people of Jammu and Kashmir considered themselves one, irrespective of language or religion; they belonged to one land,” the former chief minister said.
Speaking on the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir scheduled for November 11, the NC chief said, “Everyone hopes that the elections will be good, and we too hope that they will be better for us. Our hopes are positive.”
