A foreign national has alleged that she and a companion were harassed during American rapper Post Malone’s concert in Guwahati on Monday, sparking concerns over safety standards at large public events in the city. Malone performed in Guwahati as part of his India tour and paid tribute to iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in September.
The allegation was made by Emma, a backpacking travel vlogger, who shared a video on social media detailing the experience. She claimed that she and her friend, Amina, were “touched without consent” shortly after entering the venue at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, where Post Malone performed for the first time in India.
According to Emma, the uncomfortable situation forced them to leave the main crowd within minutes and move closer to nearby vendor stalls, where they felt more secure. She said the incident prevented them from enjoying the show and described it as part of a wider issue of harassment faced by women in public spaces.
Emma also clarified that the incident should not be used to judge Guwahati, noting that she and her friend had otherwise encountered warmth and hospitality during their visit. She also acknowledged individuals at the venue who helped them move to safety. Amina echoed the account in the comments section of the post, appreciating those who intervened: “We came for the concert and did not expect such harassment,” she wrote.
Guwahati Police stated that no formal complaint has been filed yet, but authorities are examining the incident based on the social media posts. Officials said appropriate action would be taken if any wrongdoing is established.
The allegations have triggered widespread reactions online. Many users expressed solidarity with the women and apologised for their negative experience, while others criticised attempts to downplay the seriousness of the complaint.
