A massive forest fire has broken out across multiple locations in the Rajouri Forest Division of Jammu, triggering a large-scale firefighting and emergency response by the Forest Department, Forest Protection Force and local volunteers.
Officials said the fire had affected several areas, including Khadian, Androla, Chakkli, Miahadi and Bathuni blocks. Firefighting operations are underway, with authorities deploying all available manpower to bring the blaze under control.
A Forest Department official, Rajesh Kumar, said personnel have been mobilised across the affected areas despite logistical challenges.
“The entire staff has been deployed. The fire is raging in the Chakkli, Khadian, and Androla areas. This place is too remote for fire vehicles to reach. Hopefully, the fire will be doused by evening,” he said.
Local volunteers have also joined hands with forest personnel to prevent the fire from spreading further. While locals claimed that a large portion of the forest was under fire, officials are yet to release any official estimate of the damage caused.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Forest officials are closely monitoring the situation.
