Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of six Naga civilians in Manipur, while security forces continue search operations to trace the remaining abducted persons, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Thursday during a visit to Makhan Naga village in Kangpokpi district.

The Chief Minister said the state government was treating the incident with seriousness and that investigations were underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the abduction. He added that coordinated combing and search operations were continuing across sensitive areas.

During his visit, Singh also inspected a relief camp at Makhan Baptist Church, where around 35 internally displaced persons are currently taking shelter. Among them are women and children from Konsakhul village who were earlier taken hostage by armed miscreants and later released.

The Chief Minister distributed relief materials, including rice, pulses, potatoes, onions, edible oil, sugar, tea leaves and biscuits, to the displaced families.

He also reviewed arrangements for expanding shelter facilities at the camp and discussed rehabilitation measures with local authorities and village leaders. The Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi was directed to ensure supply of essential items such as mattresses and mosquito nets for the affected families.

Village representatives informed the Chief Minister that several Naga families in Kangpokpi district have abandoned their homes due to fear following recent incidents, adding to concerns over continuing displacement in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, several MLAs, and senior civil and police officials accompanied Singh during the visit.

Security forces remain engaged in combing operations to trace the six abducted civilians, while officials continue monitoring the situation in vulnerable pockets of the district.
