In a major crackdown on illegal financial transactions and arms smuggling, Punjab Police have arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in a hawala network and cross-border weapon smuggling.
The arrests were made in Amritsar, and the accused are believed to have links with Pakistani smugglers, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to dismantle illegal arms and hawala networks operating in the region.
The Amritsar Rural Police successfully apprehended the suspects, who have been identified as Jagroop Singh alias Baba, Hardeep Singh, Rajbir Singh alias Gullu, and Arsal Singh alias Rasal Singh.
During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a significant cache of weapons and cash, including four Glock 9mm pistols, five magazines, and ₹3.05 lakh in cash.
The Gharinda police station in Amritsar has registered a case against the accused, and authorities have launched a deeper investigation to trace further links in the cross-border smuggling network.
The police are now working to identify other individuals involved in the hawala transactions and illegal arms trade, aiming to curb the growing threat posed by such activities in Punjab.
